The biomolecular and biodeterioration analysis Molab is Modular Lab that provides a set of analysis that allows: to map biological growth, detect early biofilms; to determine diversity of the microbial community and to determine metabolic activity. It is comprised of : Module 1 | detection of biofilms (M1), stereozoom microscope, digital microscope and portable VP-SEM-EDS with cryogenic platform; Module 2 | microbial community diversity (M2), DNA extraction and quantification (incubation bath/centrifugation system /Electrophoresis system/ fluorimetry DNA quantification systemQuantus™ (Promega) and 16S rRNA gene-based amplicon sequencing. The microbial diversity will be determined by sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons. high-throughput sequencing-based microbiome analysis by NGS system- MinIon nanopore; Module 3 | metabolic activity by viability/metabolic activity assays (M3) ATP quantification by bioluminescence, Lumitester PD-20 luminometer and Flow cytometry viability assays (Muse Cell Analyzer uses miniaturized fluorescence detection and microcapillary cytometry).
Potential Results
The Biomolecular Laboratory is a kit of different tools composed of: (M1) digital microscopy and SEM-EDS to detect early biofilms, (M2) a kit for DNA extraction, quantification and sequencing. For the DNA extraction and quantification DNA extraction: incubation bath/centrifugation system /Electrophoresis system/ fluorimetry DNA quantification system Quantus™ (Promega, Madison, Wisconsin, USA). For sequencing: 16S rRNA gene-based amplicon sequencing. The microbial diversity will be determined by sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons high-throughput sequencing-based microbiome analysis by NGS system- MinIon nanopore. (M3) For determining the metabolic activity: ATP quantification by bioluminescence, Lumitester PD-20 luminometer. Flow cytometry viability assays (Muse Cell Analyzer uses miniaturized fluorescence detection and microcapillary cytometry).
